Eruption Discography: The Best of British Disco and Soul
Eruption was a British disco, R&B and soul band that rose to fame in the late 1970s with their covers of Ann Peebles's \"I Can't Stand the Rain\" and Neil Sedaka's \"One Way Ticket\". The band was formed in 1974 in London by vocalist Precious Wilson, lead guitarist Greg Perrineau, bassist Morgan Perrineau, keyboardist Gerry Williams, and drummer Eric Kingsley. Wilson was born in Jamaica and she moved with her family to Great Britain at the age of seven.
The band started as a school band called Silent Eruption and won the RCA Soul Search contest in 1975. They changed their name to Eruption and signed with Hansa Records in Germany, where they were discovered by producer Frank Farian, who also worked with Boney M. Eruption toured with Boney M in 1977 and released their first album, which included their breakthrough hit \"I Can't Stand the Rain\". The song reached No. 1 in Belgium and Australia, No. 5 in the UK, and No. 18 in the US. It was followed by their second album Leave a Light, which featured their second biggest hit \"One Way Ticket\", a UK No. 9 hit.
In 1979, Wilson left the band to pursue a solo career and was replaced by Kim Davis. The band continued to record and perform, but tragedy struck when Davis died of a brain hemorrhage in 1980. She was replaced by Jane Jochen, who sang on their cover of Del Shannon's \"Runaway\", a German No. 21 hit. The band's popularity declined in the early 1980s and they released their final album Our Way in 1983. They disbanded in 1985 after their last single \"Where Do I Begin\".
Eruption's discography consists of four studio albums, one compilation album, and several singles. Their music is a blend of disco, R&B, soul, pop, and rock influences. They are remembered as one of the best British disco and soul acts of the late 1970s and early 1980s.
